What is SILP?

The Significant Incident Learning Process (SILP) is a structured approach to reviewing significant incidents and safeguarding concerns. It supports a detailed understanding of what happened, why it happened and what can be learned.

SILP takes a systems-based approach, looking beyond individual actions to consider the wider circumstances. It draws on appreciative enquiry, recognising that meaningful learning comes not only from understanding what could have been different, but also from identifying what worked well, why it worked and how effective practice can be strengthened and sustained.

The emphasis is on learning rather than blame, creating a constructive space for reflection, professional curiosity and honest exploration.
